Minutes after the Lok Sabha resumed business on Monday, speaker Sumitra Mahajan adjourned the proceedings till noon. The Rajya Sabha too has been adjourned till 11.20 am.

The second leg of the Budget Session of Parliament will see the passage of the Union Budget for 2018-19 and discussions on the demand for grants for various ministries.

  • The Fugitive Economic Offenders Bill, 2018, will be introduced during the session
  • The opposition is likely to target the government on the recent string of multi-crore bank frauds, as well as the Rafale deal
  • The issue of the salaries of Prasar Bharati being withheld by Smriti Irani’s I&B ministry will also be raised
  • The second half of the budget session ends on 26 April

The Rajya Sabha too has been adjourned till 11.20 am after TDP MPs gathered in the well of the House, demanding Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh.

Protests at the Parliament

TDP MPs continued their protests to demand Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh, with demonstrations near the Gandhi statue of the Parliament – as they had done in the first Budget session.

Meanwhile, TMC MPs raised slogans over the Nirav Modi-PNB scam, shouting: “Chota Modi, Bada Modi ek hai” and “Nirav Modi kahan hai, Narendra Modi jawab do”.
