Benchmark equity index BSE Sensex closed marginally lower on Wednesday, while the NSE Nifty 50 closed above the 10,400 mark.

Asian stocks declined following an overnight slide in US equities after President Donald Trump replaced his Secretary of State Rex Tillerson with CIA Director Mike Pompeo, extending a shake-up of his administration, spurring concerns about a one-sided approach to international trade.

The BSE Sensex ended 21.04 points or 0.06% lower at 33,835.74 on Wednesday. The broader NSE Nifty 50 too settled the day marginally lower, 0.15% or 15.95 points lower.

Sectorally, oil & gas, telecom and energy registered the most losses, falling up to 0.94%.

Losses were led by Hero Motocorp, ONGC, Tata Steel, Bharti Airtel, and Bajaj Auto, with Hero Motocorp losing 1.78%.

Yes Bank was the top performer on the BSE Sensex, with the stock gaining 1.87% by the end of the trading session.

PNB stocks fell 4.23% to Rs 93.85 in intra-day trade after reports that the bank’s exposure to alleged fraud may be over $2 billion.

Shares of Gitanjali Gems cracked 4.90% to Rs 13.60 after the National Stock Exchange (NSE) levied . penalty on the company for failure to file financial results for quarter-ended 31 December.

Meanwhile, on a net basis, domestic institutional investors (DIIs) bought shares worth Rs 1,613.39 crore while foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) also bought shares worth Rs 7,028.42 crore on Tuesday, provisional data showed.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 0.68% lower in Tuesday’s trade.
