That’s right. The show that has everybody on the edge with every latest episode, won’t be returning for the next season, sadly.

By bringing in Sharp Objects, HBO has set itself up to compete with the cultural shows of the recent times like a well-fed wild bull by delivering a brand new Gillian Flynn novel adaptation with such a stellar and powerful cast.

With Amy Adams, Marti Noxon, Patricia Clarkson , Chris Messina, Eliza Scanlen, Elizabeth Perkins and Matt Craven and Sophia Lillis on board, Sharp Objects has so far been great – but when it ends forever after this season, it will surely break many hearts. Yes, you heard it right.

Sharp Objects won’t be returning for the next season, sadly.

HBO programming chief Casey Bloys, confirmed the same while talking to a leading daily.

“I’ll tell you the difference. For Big Little Lies, Reese [Witherspoon], Nicole [Kidman], Laura [Dern], Shailene [Woodley], and Zoe [Kravitz] – they all wanted to do it again. As you know, the show is dark, and Amy’s character is very dark. It’s a difficult role for an actress to play. I believe she doesn’t want to play that character again, which I completely understand. It’s a lot to take on, and without her I just don’t see it. I think this is one where you gotta say, ‘We got a fantastic limited series, and we’ll leave it at that.'”

Sharp Objects was the debut novel from Flynn and received well by the critics and fans alike. It was originally picked up back in 2008 by British director Andrea Arnold but the project never saw the light. Jason Blum’s Blumhouse Productions later picked it up in 2014 to turn it into a miniseries and HBO officially greenlit the eight-episode series in 2016 and scheduled it for 2018.
