Teachers hold the most important place in our life. The relation of a teacher and student is indescribable. Guru Purnima is celebrated in India to pay ode to the teachers and honor them. It is celebrated in the Aashadha month of Hindu calendar and this year it will be celebrated on 27th July.

Guru Purnima marks the birth anniversary of Ved Vyas, author of the epic Mahabharata. Ved Vyas was the first Sanskrit academician who interpreted the four Vedas of Hindu mythology.

What ‘Guru’ actually means?

The ‘Guru’ word is formed by two Sanskrit words ‘Gu’ which means ‘darkness or ignorance’ and ‘Ru’ meaning ‘removal’. Hence, Guru is the person who removes the darkness from our lives. On the occasion of Guru Purnima, students offer Puja to their teachers and seek their blessings.
