Simon Coveney, Foreign Minister of Ireland, has warned that there will not be any Brexit without the backstop deal. It is a response to a comment by Dominic Raab, UK’s Brexit Secretary, that the UK transition period could be extended as an alternative to the backstop. However, Coveney stated that the UK govt had already agreed to a “legally operable backstop.”
