Much to everyone’s shock, Hollywood’s favourite couple Justin Theroux and Jennifer Aniston separated in February this year, after two years of marriage.
The couple who met each other in 2011, got married in 2015. However, their happiness was only short-lived.
For the first time since their split, Justin got candid about their separation in an interview to the New York Times. “It was heartbreaking, only in the sense that the friendship would not be the same, as far as just the day to day. But the friendship is shifting and changing, you know, so that part is something that we’re both very proud of,” he said.
He also addressed the speculation that surrounded their split, which ranged from their different personalities, to friction with Jen’s ex-husband, Brad Pitt. Justin said that he didn’t spend time dwelling on the rumours.
Emphasising that the break-up was amicable, he said, “The good news is that was probably the most – I’m choosing my words really carefully – it was kind of the most gentle separation, in that there was no animosity. In a weird way, just sort of navigating the inevitable perception of it is the exhausting part.”
The ex-couple had announced their separation in a statement.
“In an effort to reduce any further speculation, we have decided to announce our separation. This decision was mutual and lovingly made at the end of last year. We are two best friends who have decided to part ways as a couple but look forward to continuing our cherished friendship.”
