A study published in the Science suggests that water may be present in substantial amounts in the lower depths of the earth. After studying diamond samples at the Lawrence Berkley National Laboratory, scientists found small traces of crystallized water in inclusions (small pockets of space measuring few microns). So water may be present at depths of 640 km.
